It is not an exaggeration to say that, in terms of real acting chops, Ajay Devgan is one of the BEST working in Bollywood today. Since he is not the most attractive of actors, and does not use his body to lure in fans (John Abraham, Salman (ew) Khan, i'm looking at you) it can only be his sheer talent that has taken him this far.
His powerful yet subtle performances in Omkara and Company compete with any seen in Hollywood. He conveys an air of menace and control, stealing scenes with the intensity behind his words.

Each character he is given, he inhabits completely. Though he has a tendency to favour crazy comedy (Golmaal, All the Best, Sunday etc) he is best viewed in masterpieces such as Omkara/company and thrillers like Khakee, Deewangee, Kachche Dhaage, Apaharan, Halla Bol. He has also proven to be a good romantic lead in Mehbooba, Chori Chori (such a cute film!)and Pyaar to Hona Hi tha. Adding to this he tried his hand as a director in U Me Aur Hum (a solid first time effort).

some of his 90's films are also worth checking out, the best being Jigar, Suhaag, Hulchul, Jaan, Naajayaz etc 90's Ajay was more of an action hero than a dramatic actor though and some of his early films (Jaan, i'm looking at YOU) do make you go WTF? a bit.
Ajay's real name is Vishal Veeru Devgan and he was born in 1969. He is famous (in his personal life) for, of course, being married to my No.1 Bollywood actress, the awesome Kajol. He previously dated Karishma Kapoor and had a very public rivalry with Raveena Tandon. He is rather shy/ quiet in personality (though known as a prankster on film sets) and describes himself as 'Lazy'.

Though i love Kajol and Ajay seperatley (and support their marriage of course) onscreen they are not my favourite Jodi. I prefer Kajol with Shahrukh (my no.1 jodi) and as for Ajay i think he suits well with Karishma, Aishwarya and Urmila.
"I'm going to keep making films I believe in. Whether I am successful or not is besides the point." -Ajay Devgan

Karishma Kapoor: a re-evaluation
Firstly, is it Karishma or Karisma..i've seen it spelt both ways...
The first thing i ever saw Karishma in was Dil to Pagal Hai and, i have to say, i HATED her. I thought 'how can this ugly thing compete against Madhuri Dixit?'. It's safe to say that DTPH probably wasn't the best film to judge her beauty in given that indeed she would be compared against the stunning Madhuri and inevitably come up short.
Also, i am a BIG fan of Kareena and have always found her to be unusually beautiful in a way that Karisma is not. Kareena also had impressed me with her acting chops in films such as Omkara, Jab We Met and Asoka (we'll avoid mentiong Poo in K3G). So compared to her Karishma was (to me) just her uglier, older sister.
I now realise i was wrong, and perhaps unfair. The films that changed my mind about her were Suhaag (1994) and Jigar (1992). This early nineties Karishma that i saw was just soo cute! I love her poofy hair, her thick pre-tweezered eyebrows her funky outfits, everything. I suddenly GOT her. And i loved her Jodi with Ajay Devgan (apparently a real life couple at one point as well).
Above: Karishma with Ajay :)
Karishma was born in 1974 and is around 4 or 3 years older than Kareena. Her grandfather was the legendary Raj Kapoor star of Awara, Shree 420 etc
Karishma made her debut in Hindi cinema when she was just 17 years old in the film
Prem Qaidi. She has won Filmfare best actress for Raja Hindustani (with Aamir khan)and Fiza (with Hrithik Roshan) and best supporting actress for Dil To Pagal Hai (with SRK). These days it seems she doesn't do as much as she used to, perhaps having been eclipsed by her little sister. Still, i would be very happy if ever she made another film with Ajay Devgan!
i especially loved her in Jigar, she really looked pretty/acted well and just was a thousand times more appealing than she had been in DTPH. In fact, i think she suited with Ajay so much that they are well on their way to becoming one of my favourite Bollywood Jodi(s)

This doesn't mean that she's gonna knock kareena off of 4th place in my list of favourite Bollywood actresses, what it does mean is that i will no longer frown when i see her listed in the cast of a movie i want to watch. In fact i may well smile : )

The First Post
This is the first of three post i will make today (yeah i know, overkill much) but there's some stuff i need to get off my chest.
Firstly, I LOVE Shahrukh Khan. I mean, in my eyes the man can do no wrong.
He is my no.1 favourite ever actor.
I am just stating this because my other first posts won't be about Shahrukh and
so that no one gets the wrong idea, i thought i would just mention this obsession of mine right off the bat.
Secondly, i HATE Salman Khan. In the words of Lucky from Main Hoon Na...
AVOID,yaar!
anyway, i will list more of my likes and dislikes later, this is just an introductory post :)
so, i'm an art student who loves films. In particular i love Bollywood/Hindi
films and movies from Hollywood's Golden age. This blog is so i can express this love and fully snark or compliment movies and actors i am aware of!
